LA Fire Card proudly offers a California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT)–certified Intravenous (IV) Therapy Certification Class, designed to provide students with the knowledge, technical skills, and hands-on experience required to safely and effectively perform IV therapy in full compliance with California regulations.


This 30-hour, in-person course is delivered over three consecutive days, with 10 hours of instruction per day, and emphasizes a balanced approach of evidence-based theory, live demonstration, and extensive supervised practice.
 

Program Overview:

This intensive IV Therapy course is ideal for healthcare professionals and aspiring clinicians seeking focused training in intravenous therapy principles and techniques. The program incorporates instructor-led lectures, interactive learning activities, skills demonstrations, simulation training, and real-human practice to ensure skill mastery and confidence.
 

Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion for 30 Contact Hours (CEUs).


Eligibility:

  • Open to any individual 18 years or older

  • No prior RN or LVN license is required to enroll

  • Licensed LVNs may use this course toward BVNPT IV Therapy licensure upon approval

  • Registered Nurses (RNs) may attend for skills enhancement and continuing education


Course Structure:

3-Day IV Therapy Intensive (In-Person Only)
Schedule: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Total Instructional Time: 30 hours


Core Curriculum Includes:

  • IV therapy theory and legal scope of practice

  • Anatomy and physiology related to venous access

  • Infection control and patient safety standards

  • IV equipment, supplies, and solution selection

  • Site selection and vein assessment

  • IV catheter insertion techniques

  • Complication recognition and prevention

  • Documentation and professional standards of care


Hands-On Training & Skills Practice:

  • Instructor-guided IV insertion practice using:

    • Hyperrealistic IV arm simulation kits

    • Live practice on fellow classmates

  • Progressive skill development from simulation to real-human veins

  • Exposure to varying vein types, anatomy, skin tone, and vein depth

  • Emphasis on repetition to build accuracy, speed, and confidence

  • Direct, real-time feedback from experienced instructors


Students must demonstrate competency through a practical, in-person skills assessment.
 

Instruction & Training Quality:

The course is taught by a masters-prepared, highly qualified Registered ICU Nurse (RN) and Certified Licensed Phlebotomist (CPT I) with extensive clinical and instructional experience. Training utilizes brand-new, state-of-the-art simulation equipment to ensure a high-quality, realistic learning environment. Each student is provided access to hyperrealistic IV practice kits to support hands-on learning throughout the course.


Certification & Completion

  • Certificate of Completion for 30 Contact Hours (CEUs)

  • Meets applicable state and professional training standards

  • LVNs may apply their certificate toward BVNPT IV Therapy licensure (additional $50 paid at the end of class)


Remaining Balance:
Any remaining tuition balance is due in person on Day 1


What Happens After Registration?

After registering, students will receive a confirmation email with additional class details. Students must report to the classroom on their selected dates from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM each day.
